About the Project

The Unquestioned Answer is a new project dedicated to fostering discussion and interest in the burgeoning field of electronic and electro-acoustic music, as well as other contemporary musical compositions. On a regular basis, I intend to publish blogs dedicated this subject, and I look forward to engaging with a diverse community of musicians, composers, and scholars who share this interest. My posts will include updates about my own projects as well as editorials and discussions about the goings on in the world of contemporary music.

My Story

I am a second-year music major at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. I’m currently studying violin performance and math. As such, I have a special interest in the ways numbers and data can be used to create beautiful structures–in music, as well as in other forms of art. It is also for this reason that I’m excited to explore how digital programs can help enhance and even create these structures.

At a time when the role of technology in art remains a controversial subject, our conversation about the role of technology in music is especially important. Indeed, this controversy bears at its heart the essential questions of what art is and what it means to be human. Of course, I don’t posses any definite answers in these areas, but I have many questions (even more so because I am new to this field).

If I have one conviction, though, it is that our world is more in need of questions than answers. As listeners and as participants in an evermore data-saturated world, I believe our ears must be as sensitive to questions as to the cadential finality of answers. In fact, as the name of my blog implies, my main objective is not to preach answers, but to raise questions–to create conversation. As a student, I consider this my most important responsibility.
